Kevin and Kim joined our congregation on March 20th. Their sons are Jaden (7) and Ransom (2). Kim and Kevin have been married for 13 years and have served in churches for that amount of time.  Kevin has received theological training from Boyce Bible College, the undergraduate school of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and received his BA in Religion, a Christian ministry degree from Luther Rice Seminary.  He currently is pursuing his Masters of Divinity at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Kevin enjoys watching and playing various sports, reading, and plays at various instruments (guitar, mandolin, bass, banjo, and piano). Kevin and Kim enjoy adventures and spending time with their family and friends.

Kim is employed by Sonography Now, a company that trains nurses to be certified as sonographers in resource pregnancy centers nationwide.  She oversees the operations, as she works from home.  Kim’s hobbies include reading, singing, and shopping.  They both enjoy the arts of various kinds. In addition to serving in the church, they serve in the prolife realm by offering support/comfort to those who have suffered the loss of unborn children either through miscarriage or termination by conducting community baby memorial services, as opportunity arises www.takeheartministries.com .

Meet Our New Youth Pastor and His Wife

My name is Chad Hartis and in 2008 I graduated from Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute where I received an Associate’s Degree in Religion/Church Ministry.

Shortly following graduation I married my wife Jodi Hartis. About a year and a half ago God laid it on my heart to continue my education at Southeastern Seminary and so in November, 2009 we made the move to Wake Forest. God called me into the ministry in 2004, and since then I have been preparing for the task. Following graduation from high school, I took a year to be mentored by two pastors in Charlotte.

During that time we discussed different aspects of the ministry, and studied the Bible together. During my mentoring I had the opportunity to do some volunteer work with the Metrolina Baptist Association and became involved with a group of pastors and youth leaders from various churches who met monthly to pray. I then enrolled at Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute to prepare for my calling to ministry. While at Fruitland I had opportunities to preach, served as a volunteer youth pastor at Barker Heights Baptist Church, and was an intern at Mud Creek Baptist Church.

Following graduation, I came on staff at Grace Baptist Church as a youth pastor and served there for a little over a year. God has placed a special burden on my heart to reach out to youth. I believe that youth are not just the church of tomorrow, but they are the church of today. Students seem to be more confused than ever, but at the same time still have a desire to search for the truth. Therefore there is a desperate need for students to be grounded in the Word of God. According to findings from the Barna Research Group, the majority of students today have a negative view of Christianity.

My heart’s desire is to teach students that God’s Word is relevant and we must be obedient. God has called me to “equip the saints for the work of ministry, and to build up the body of Christ, until we all come to unity, and maturity in the faith” (Eph. 4:11-13). I think the best way to reach young people is through other young people. And in order for a student to effectively impact the world for Christ, they need to be equipped. I intend to do that through relevant Bible teaching, leading by example, and working with other youth workers, parents, and church staff to help disciple youth through transformational teaching, Gospel community, and intentional outreach.
