Meet Our New Pastor and His Family
Jonathan Barbee is originally from Monroe, NC. When Jonathan was 14 years old, he gave his life to Christ, and when he was 17 years old, he sensed God calling him into the ministry. Upon graduating from high school, he attended North Greenville University where he received a B.A. in Christian Studies. While in college, he met his future wife, Brandi Fowler. In August 2001, Jonathan and Brandi were married and immediately moved to Wake Forest, NC, where Jonathan pursued a Master's degree in Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Jonathan and Brandi are blessed with two children, Chloe (9) and Caroline (7).
Jonathan has a strong passion for ministry and serving the Lord and His Church. Jonathan worked in student ministry for 12 years. In 2008, God lead Jonathan into the senior pastorate role. In November, 2008, God led Jonathan to his present ministry. As a pastor, Jonathan has a
big heart for people of all ages. Over the past five years, the Lord allowed Jonathan to lead his former church to hire their first student pastor in the church's history, develop an outreach program - CARE (Christians Actively reaching Everyone), establish a children's ministry, assist with music/media, and develop a monthly outing program for the senior adults. Led by a heart for evangelism and missions, the church (youth and adults) has been involved in an international project to build a well in Tanzania and a local project to provide over 80 homes with boxes of food. Jonathan believes that his great responsibility is to faithfully share the gospel and to faithfully teach God's word.
Olive Grove is very blessed to have Pastor Barbee and his family with us and we look forward with great anticipation to being a part of his vision and leadership for our church.
Meet Our New Youth Pastor
I am originally from Conway, SC, where I grew up in a Christian home. I attended high school at Conway Christian School and graduated in 2009. By God's grace, I was saved at age 18, when God showed me my need for Christ through reading his inspired Word. Upon salvation, I felt called to full time ministry. After graduating from high school, I attended North Greenville University where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Christian Studies. I am currently a full time student at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary where I am seeking a Master of Divinity degree in Expository Preaching. I enjoy watching or playing any sport, hunting, fishing, and reading. I also enjoy spending time with my girlfriend of five years, Lauren Newlands. Lauren is studying to be a nurse at Francis Marion University in Florence, SC. In ministry, my primary goal is to fulfill the Great Commission as outlined by Christ in Matthew 28:19. To do the above, we must be obedient to the commission by actively pursuing ministry opportunities that will lead to salvation of people, accomplished by the obedience of the saints, to proclaim and the faithfulness of the Holy Spirit to do His perfect work. Also in pursuit of the Great Commission, once a person is converted, my goal will be to see that person become mature in the faith. In order to accomplish this, I must be faithful to preach and teach Christ from all Scripture, so that I might present them complete in Him. (Colossians 1:28) By the grace of God and through the equipping of the believer, the local church will be strengthened and unity will be established.
